One of the high altitude mountain passes in the Indian Himalayan region that is located in the Garhwal Himalaya at an elevation of 4,650 meters, the Rupin Pass is the traditional shepherd between the remote hamlets of Dhaula in Uttarakhand and Sangla in Himachal Pradesh. The trek to Rupin Pass involves a strenuous climb through rocky and snaky paves and wooden bridges, deep dark mounds, moraines and icy slopes, and over snow fields. Along the way there are white Rhododendrons and expanse of green meadows as well. Further, the panoramic view of the Kinner Kailash peak and other Himalayan peaks simply treats the eyes of travellers. Being one of the toughest trails in the Garhwal Himalayan region, the Rupin Pass trek is one of the least explored treks in the Indian Himalayan belt.
The trek to Rupin Pass commences from Dhola, which is a drive-able distance from Mori. Mori is few kilometers away from Mussoorie. From Dhola the trek leads to Sevah, which is at an altitude of 2,000 meters and thereafter a comfortable climb leads off at Jaskin at 2,320 meters. From Jaskin, en route a picturesque meadow the route climbs up to Jakha, which is at an altitude of 2,650 meters, and thereafter snakes through a picture perfect ambiance to Saruwas Thach, which is at an elevation of 3,450 meters. The strenuous trail starts from this point, when the climb continues to Rupin Pass via Nuru, which is at an elevation of 3,600 meters. From Nuru, the downhill trek drops you at Sangla in Himalachal Pradesh and later wheels to Shimla.
Day 1: Delhi To Dehradun To Mussoorie
In the morning, board the AC train to Dehradun scheduled at 6:50 AM from the New Delhi Railway Station. By 12:40 PM you will reach Dehradun and check-in to a hotel. In the evening, you can go out and travel around the local attractions in the city of Dehradun. We will be staying for the night at the hotel.
Day 2: Mussoorie To Mori
After having healthy breakfast, we will drive towards Mori passing through Naugaon, Kempty Falls, Damta, and Purola. After reaching Mori check-in to a hotel. We will be staying for the night at the hotel in Mori.
Day 3: Mori To Dhola To Sevah (2000 Meters/6560 Feet/40 Kilometers/2 Hours) (8 Kilometers Trek/4 Hours)
On this day, we will drive till Dhola, which will be the starting point of the trek. From here we will begin our trek and continue the hike till Sevah. We will set up the camp and stay here for the night.
Day 4: Sevah To Jaskin (2320 Meters/76096 Feet)
On this day, we will trek towards Jaskin. On the way of the trail, you will get to see and explore the impressive picturesque vistas of the verdant alpine meadows, murmuring waterfalls and snow covered peaks. After reaching, we will set up the camp here and stay here for the night.
Day 5: Jaskin To Jakha (2650 Meters/8692 Feet)
Today, we will trek for about 8 kilometers, which will take us to our destination Jakha. We will be staying for the overnight in the tents.
Day 6: Jakha To Saruwas Thach (3450 Meters/11316 Feet)
Today, in the trail Saruwas Thach will be our next destination. We will trek for 8 kilometers which will take around 5 to 6 hours to reach our destination. We will gradually move ahead at a leisurely pace enjoying and exploring the picturesque exquisiteness of the stunning surroundings on the entire trail. We will be staying for the night in the tents.
Day 7: Saruwas Thach To Nuru (3600 Metres/11808 Feet) Through Rupin Pass (4625 Meters/15170 Feet)
Today, in the early morning, we will start our trek in the direction of Rupin Pass. After reaching the Rupin pass you will be able to see the fabulous views of the magnificent Kinnaur Kailash Range. From here, we will continue and climb down the pass, and move ahead towards the grazing lands of Nuru. It will take around 6 hours to complete this 12 kilometers long trail. We will be staying for the night in the tents.
Day 8: Nuru To Sangla (2654 Meters /8706 Feet)
On this day, we will be trekking for about 12 kilometers to reach Sangla. It will take around 3 to 4 hours to reach our destination. After we reach the road head, we will take drive up towards our campsite which will take a half an hour. We will be staying for the night in the tents.
Day 9: Sangla To Shimla (260 Kilometers/ 8to 9 Hours)
Today we will drive towards Shimla. The entire route towards Shimla offers astonishing views of the briskly flowing Satluj River and towering mountains. By late evening, we will reach Shimla and check-in to a hotel for overnight stay.
Day 10: Shimla To Delhi (360 Kilometers/8 Hours)
On this day, you can spend your day shopping in the local market and go for sightseeing of famous spots of Shimla and by night catch the AC Volvo for Delhi by 22:00 hours. Overnight voyage.
Day 11: Arrive Delhi
You will reach Delhi by 22:45 hours.
